A Bit Of An Update

Slug mode

I have been lucky in that immunotherapy has worked for me in the newest trial, especially since it was not a viable solution for me a few years ago.  They are figuring out the combinations of drugs that unlock things.

It seems my body reacts strongly to these things.  The Covid-19 2nd shot and booster had me taking naps for 48 hours and 60 hours respectively.  The first two infusions of the modified bird virus in this drug trial hit me pretty hard.

And I still have the occasional reaction to the immunotherapy drug I get once a month now.  Fortunately it is nothing too bad.  Just get really tired.  If I try to fight through it, it is difficult.  It is frustrating. It is against my nature to do keep moving or doing something.  If I want to relax I will do it on my own terms.   Being forced to relax does not work well 😉

The rest periods usually happen within a week or so of the infusion.  I was on a real trip (outside the United States or Canada) for the first time since I was diagnosed with Cancer.  Went to Israel, which I never have been to before.  And I got "hit."  The first time was in Tel Aviv.  15 hour nap.

But when I got to Jerusalem, I had a 48 hour nap.  Incredibly frustrating.  In fact I thought about coming home and looked at fares.  I know better and know the tired will break.

That is better

If I just rode it out, it would be fine.  Fortunately, I finally gave in and just went with sleeping.  And the thought that I know the tied breaks and I would make the most of the remainder of the trip.

You can see my step patterns for the time period.  Basically went to zero.  Which was also annoying since I am trying to train for a race that is happening in a month.  I did get one official "run" in.  And once I got past the longer nap, was up and about moving.  Was walking 5-7 miles a day in fairly hot conditions, so I figure that is helping keep some base going.  And today I got back on track with going outside and doing a walk-run keeping a target time in mind.  Sometimes I pushed it a bit - bad idea in retrospect - but I am pretty happy with the results.  I should be okay and not DNF the team with my running speed.

Back at it tomorrow and will be adding stretching.  Tightness in my legs/hips and shoulders are more problematic than the running/walking.  So I figure a month of focus on that should help 😀
