January In The Books, Off To The Trial

Not a bad brick

All the craziness of my friends running in the cold rubbed off on me a bit today

Tomorrow I start my third #cancer drug trial at @memorialsloangettering. I figure I may take it easy for a day or two, depending on what the doctor's say and how I react to the drugs. This will be the 6th different cocktail in the last 7 years. Each one is different, and each affects me in different ways.
And over time each one builds up to kick my rear end more.
I had taken a few days off because my back has been acting up the last couple of weeks. It may be time for another round of steroids. Last night I took an extra painkiller, muscle relaxer and slept on the heating pad most of the night. So this morning it was not so bad. I popped a couple of motrin just in case.
I figured I was going to do a bit of biking and running while the football games were on. I wanted to get about 8 miles in on the bike to get over 150 miles for the month and run at least .2 miles to get over 30 miles for the month.
Cozumel Rouvy Style
I had a small breakfast, a couple of egg bites and some grapefruit, rested a bit and decided to start during the first game. My back was a bit balky, but not too bad as I started. I put the Cozumel map on Rouvy (which I have never completed) because I know many of the portions of the route very well. One of my favorite places in the world.
January Totals
About 1/2 hour I was feeling okay. Lungs not complaining. Legs not complaining. Back not complaining. So I didn't complain. Just wanted to take it easy and keep HR low. Then I was an hour and a half in. Then 22 miles and feeling okay. Just kept on pedaling.

Bounced to the treadmill. I had to get .2 miles in. Then the inevitable as I watched the game. Finally decided I would be done when I hit 5K. A nice target.
Over 190 miles biking and almost 33 miles running this month. A good start to 2022. I am still not sure if I will ever do a 70.3 again, or even a sprint triathlon, solo. But a relay is never out of the question.
